The Crane Estate is a 2,100-acre Trustees of Reservations property in Ipswich, Massachusetts — Crane Beach, the Castle Hill mansion and the Crane Wildlife Refuge, all about 45 minutes from Boston. With kids, the winning formula is a morning at Crane Beach (book the timed pass ahead on weekends), a picnic on the Grand Allée, then either a costumed Guest of the Cranes tour of the 1929 Great House or a CraneExplorer family hike in the dunes. School-age kids can spend a whole week here at SummerQuest camp (ages 5–15), and the calendar peaks with the Roaring Twenties Lawn Party in August and Christmas at Castle Hill in December. It's one of the outings in GOkidOZ's Greater Boston day-trips guide — use the button above for the official site, or head back to browse every museum, tour and nature spot.
