Back in Wellesley this fall: two practices a week for eight weeks, a Community Impact Project, and a celebratory 5K the whole team crosses together.
Girls on the Run is a running program only in the way that a team is a running team — the running is the vehicle. Caring coaches lead fun lessons and games, group discussions and physical activity twice a week, and each team completes a Community Impact Project of its own choosing. The season ends with a joyful 5K that the girls cross as a team, not a race they have to win.
This season's curriculum focuses on speaking up: building the confidence to share thoughts, ideas and feelings out loud; finding the "Heart Power" to speak up even when nervous; and learning to listen deeply, show empathy and invite others into the conversation. It suits a third- to sixth-grader who is quietly capable but hangs back, as much as one who already loves to run.
No. Practices mix games, discussion and physical activity, and the closing 5K is a celebration the team completes together — walking parts of it is normal and expected.
$354 for 16 lessons across 8 weeks. Financial assistance is available — apply during registration through Wellesley Parks & Rec.
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30–6:00 pm, starting Tuesday 9/22. The celebratory 5K is Sunday, November 15, 2026.
