Bukutoku is a live online book club, in Russian, for kids ages 5–16. Small groups read together with an experienced reading facilitator, pausing to discuss characters, plot and what's happening between the lines — built for kids who don't naturally reach for a book, not just kids who already love reading. Running 6+ years, with 2,341+ books read and families joining from 30+ countries.

There are four formats: the core Классические встречи (live group read-aloud and discussion); «Колесо», which weans kids onto independent reading by having them finish chapters at home between live sessions; Книгокадр, which pairs a book with its film adaptation for comparison; and private 1-on-1 lessons that can work through a school reading-list book or help with a book report. The scheduling page shows meeting times for several cities, including New York and Los Angeles, so US families can find a workable slot.

Frequently asked questions

What is Bukutoku?

An online book club for Russian-speaking kids ages 5–16. Small groups meet live online for read-aloud sessions and discussion led by an experienced reading facilitator, so kids who don't naturally love reading get pulled in too.

What formats are there?

Классические встречи (live group read-aloud and discussion). Встречи «Колесо» (leader reads part of a book live, kids finish chapters at home, then discuss). Книгокадр (read a book, then watch and compare the film adaptation). Частные занятия (private 1-on-1 reading and discussion, including help with a school book report).

How much does it cost?

The first lesson is free. Ongoing pricing isn't published on the site — ask about rates when you book the free trial.

What ages?

Ages 5–16 overall; sign-up lets you pick a band (4–7, 7–10, 9–11, 10–12, 13–14, or 12+) so kids are grouped with close-in-age peers.

Does the schedule work for US time zones?

Bukutoku's scheduling page lets you pick a city — including New York and Los Angeles — to see meeting times converted to that zone, so East Coast families can find a workable slot.
