A 100% volunteer organization that makes sure Boston-area children experiencing homelessness and poverty get holiday magic — a real party, a real gift, chosen for them.
Christmas in the City is a 501(c)(3) run entirely by volunteers — no paid staff — with one commitment: that every child in the Boston area gets some holiday magic regardless of what their family can afford. Because it's all-volunteer, every dollar donated goes to the families served.
For families with young kids, the natural way in is a gift drive: shop for a specific child, wrap it, deliver it. Kids can help pick and wrap, which makes the giving concrete instead of abstract. Older kids and teens may be able to help on event days — but the roles and age minimums change year to year, so email info@christmasinthecity.org and ask before you plan around it.
It isn't only December. The organization runs projects through the year, including Thanksgiving in the City and regular volunteer nights.
